Adam Pearce – 1:31:05 to 1:27:10 Great Eastern Run half marathon

Following a fantastic progression during his speedwork and subsequent marathon training, Adam chose to continue our work together, targeting the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough.

His recent marathon PB of 3:16 suggested he would run 1:34 for the half, and a 5k test run at the start of this new block backed this up. Through the coming weeks and heat of summer, Adam kept up the hard work and trusted the process despite some tough races in temperatures over 20 degrees.

A strong performance at the hilly Ipswich half marathon in 1:31:05 showed Adam that he was making good progress, despite still being warm for the time of year at 19C. This was just 3 weeks ahead of the main target race.

The combination of slightly cooler weather and a better course finally allowed Adam to show what he was capable of. Running a hard effort, he crossed the line in just 1:27:10. This broke a half marathon PB that he’d achieved 12 years ago.

Progressing by approximately 7 minutes over 6 months is an incredible achievement, and shows how hard Adam worked throughout his training.
