Jon Shooter – 3:57:54 to 3:42:15 Hartford marathon
Following Jon’s Manchester marathon experience which was scuppered by food poisoning, he knuckled down and set new targets, knowing this was unfortunate, but wouldn’t determine his long term success.
Jon wanted to complete the London Classics series with the London 100 mile ride and Serpentine 2 mile swim following on from his previous London marathon. This meant a more triathlon style of training over summer, before an autumn marathon. Triathlon coach Karen Rix planned Jon’s swimming while we worked on everything else, including whole body strength for the challenges.
With a very busy work period, Jon and I agreed to ease back on some of the paces in training to secure a good level of fitness that wouldn’t demand excessive training by his high expectations of himself.
Hartford , USA would be Jon’s marathon, on a hilly course at the end of a strenuous month working in America, across four different locations split between both West and East coasts, meaning a lot of flights, travel and work time.
Despite a tough final month of training with climate, altitude and time zone adjustments taking an inevitable toll, Jon ran really well, putting into practice the patience he’s worked on in running, and benefiting from the excellent carb load he executed. Finishing in 3:42:15, Jon achieved an incredible 15-minute PB.
